A Beginners Guide to Quilling
The Background
With its popularity increasing during the 19th and 20th centuries, quilling or paper filigree is the art of rolling strips of paper into coils and shaping them into ornamental designs.
Quilling uses include making cards and ornaments, decorating invitations, and embellishing scrapbook pages.
The Technique
• Moisten the end of the paper strip and roll it around a toothpick, needle, hat pin or quilling tool.
• Remove the tool and allow the coil to expand.
• Pinch the coil and glue the ends strategically to form a design.
