Time Management for Busy Moms

As with most busy moms, time just seems to slip away from our grasps. Where do you find the time for you? In such a fast paced world it is hard to find time for everything that needs to get done in the day, let alone the things that we would like to do. Breathe. It’s ok to feel like there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done, and there are ways to find time to enjoy yourself that you never knew you had.

In order to find extra time throughout your day, you need to calculate how much time you spend doing daily activities. Create a log and record these things: How many hours you sleep at night; How many hours do you spend on daily grooming; How many hours do you spend getting the kids and spouse ready for work; How many hours do you spend on commuting to and from work/school; How many hours do you spend on daily chores; How many hours do you spend cooking and dining; How many hours do you spend on errands/extra running; How many hours do you spend socializing and going out? You can add or subtract activities to this list as you see fit. Once you are done figuring up your hours, multiply each hour answer by 7, (or however many days you do that certain activity, such as work) as there are seven days in a week.

Here’s an example:

Total Number Hours Worked 8 X 5 = 40 Hours
Total Number Hours of Sleep 8 X 7 = 56 Hours

Once you have totaled up the hours of time for each activity per week, subtract that number from 168, as that is how many hours are in a week. The time left over is time that you can spend enjoying yourself doing the things you would like to do, or just catching a few extra ZZZ’s.

Use a schedule of the activities that you do in a day, and make sure to schedule in extra time for you. This way, when that certain time rolls around you know that you are using it for yourself and you will be in the right mindset to do something for you. There are many ways to go about fitting in the extra time you know you have, play around with your schedule to see what works best for you.
